“City of God’s Son” is an experimental hip-hop opera starring Nas, Jay Z, Ghostface, Biggie Smalls, Raekwon, Samuel Jackson, Delroy Lindo, and Laurence Fishburne. It is a crime drama/coming of age tale of three fictitious characters growing up in a crime ridden city in a jungle. This project explores the icon of the gangster in modern media, and weaves musical history and gangster film history into an operatic music based story of brotherhood and survival. An homage to 90’s New York hip-hop, “City of God’s Son” is the redefinition of the remix. Featuring legendary soul singer Joe Bataan. The musical/soundscape portion of the project is available for FREE download on cityofgodson.com. the visual/installation is coming this summer to NY.

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of their debut album 3 Feet High and Rising, hip-hop pioneers De La Soul teamed up with Kidrobot to create this limited edition set of 3-inch figures.
Each figure comes with individual accessories and the set comes in futuristic space travel boxes, symbolizing De La’s mission to take hip-hop to the stratosphere and beyond. Retailing for $50, the De La Soul 3-Pack arrives at Kidrobot stores, kidrobot.com, and select retailers on March 18.

Shyne has signed a seven-figure deal with Def Jam*, ending a bidding war that included Dr. Dre/Jimmy Iovine. The plan is to have Shyne work out of London.
Looks like Shyne will be in good hands, he’s working with veteran manager Kyambo “HipHop” Joshua for a while now. Joshua and his HipHopSince1978 partners, Gee Roberson, also manage Lil Wayne, Drake, Young Jeezy and more. I am interested to see what Shyne will bring to the table, i will be patiently waiting like everyone else.
*(obviously in this climate, these kinds of numbers are few and far between, so this certainly signals that labels see value in legacy or storyline. Drake got a reported 2 million last year. And of course, this is Shyne’s second time around in a bidding war.)
